Nvidia's acquisition of Arm is supported by the world's three major chip giants

Sunday,Jul 04,2021

According to reports, Nvidia’s proposal to acquire Arm for US$40 billion has been promoted, and the world’s three largest chip manufacturers have recently expressed their support for this controversial transaction.

Arm is headquartered in Cambridge, England, and Nvidia's acquisition of Arm has aroused people's attention to national security. According to the report, Broadcom, MediaTek and Marvell became the first Arm customers to support this deal.

Prior to this, the UK Competition and Markets Authority was preparing to submit a report that might vote against the deal. At this time, the three software giants expressed their support for Nvidia's acquisition. This potential transaction is also under scrutiny in the United States, the European Union and China.

Nvidia's rival Qualcomm and technology giants including Microsoft have expressed concerns about the transaction. They are worried that Nvidia may restrict the supply of Arm's technology to competitors after completing the acquisition, or use it to increase prices. Japan's Softbank Group is currently seeking to sell Arm, which provides its chip design solutions to more than 500 companies that develop their own chips.
